Dr. Hurwitz is certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and fellowship-trained in advanced minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology. He has been in practice at Hoag Hospital since 1998. His clinical interests include: the application of minimally invasive/robotic surgery to hernia repair, single-incision gallbladder surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery; endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery); and the surgical management of melanoma. In addition, he serves as Medical Director of the Hoag Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. Dr. Hurwitz received his Bachelor of Science from Tulane University, and his Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University New Orleans Medical Center. He completed his General Surgery residency training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a fellowship in Surgical Oncology from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a second fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery from The University of Southern California. He also served as past president of Hoag Hospital Department of Surgery.
